"El Jardin" For those of you who do not speak Spanish, the title means the garden. I named it that because I view it as a representation of the garden of potential. Human potential to be more precise. I'm sure that more than a few of you know someone, or are yourself a person whose talents go unnoticed. As you can see in the painting below, each individual object radiates its essence out into the darkness that surrounds it hoping to be seen. The fact that it may go unseen does not however, negate its beauty, its talent, its power, or its contribution to the world.
Above: "Mental Explorations" copyright 1993 by Stephen R. Martinez. The painting is 40" x 50" oil on canvas. I used a half Damar varnish half stand oil glazing medium which gave the painting a more glossy finish as well as more depth to the colors.
Left: "El Jardin" copyright 2015 by Stephen R. Martinez. This piece marks my return to painting after a very long absence. I actually began this work in or around 1999. I worked on it for a few days, and then with it less than a third of the way complete, it went into storage limbo. Why? You might ask. You all know the real saying, but I'll use the PG one, "Life happens!" I didn't pick up where I left off until the Fall of 2014, and I finished it in January of 2015.
